Some old Salmon Fishing and Halibut Fishing stories!

Halibut Fishing

Pacific Halibut are bottom dwellers and are a tasty meal of the white fleshed fish. Halibut, who also go by Hippoglossus stenolepis (translates as “hippo of the sea”) and are the largest member of the flounder/flatfishes family. The average weight of a sport-caught halibut is about 20 – 40 pounds, although 100 pound fish are relatively common. These ‘barn door’ halibut in the 100-300 pound range are a very real possibility … Twenty pound halibut are considered the finest of eating by connoisseurs yielding a fine grain white meat. But a 100 pound Halibut will fill your freezer in no time.

Halibut Fishing is fun and easy – put the bait on the bottom and hang on. Herring, Squid & Octopus are commonly used for bait to lure the mighty halibut but one of my favorites is a fresh salmon belly. It’s quite a thrill to feel a big halibut try to pull the rod out of your hands. Reeling it in might be a different story but fun nevertheless. Hauling halibut off the ocean floor can be daunting and downright tiring. Sore arms and back are a common side effect of this fabulous halibut fishing. Getting the fish on board can be very wild and exciting as well.

SALMON FISHING

Salmon Fishing is synonymous with B.C. fishing charters. Ucluelet on Vancouver Island rivals all the best west coast locations. At Wild Pacific Charters, you reliably get to where the salmon are found! Departing as early as 5:30 a.m., guests are provided a full day of fishing. You guides have pinpointed many ‘out of the weather “tacks”, so the salmon fishing charter continues through the afternoon, even in inclement weather. Anglers commonly catch 20 to 30 lb Chinook Salmon all summer long, with some catches weighing up to 50 lbs.

We take pride in our catch and release format during our tuna charters on P.E.I. as we want to preserve the magnificent Giant Bluefin tuna for further generations.

When you join Captain Mark Jenkins, who has over 20 years of tuna fishing experience, and brother Cody on a tuna charter, they can either strap you into the chair, hook you up to light stand up gear, or if you’d rather, just out of the rod holder.

The waters of North Lake, Prince Edward Island, Canada offer one of us the most powerful and sought out after fish in the world today, so climb on board a Bluefin tuna charter and being your quest in creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Captain Mark Jenkins has been fishing commercially for lobster and tuna for 20 years.
