Walleye Fishing
West Nipissing Walleye fishing is great in early season from the opening of the season to the middle part of June. West Nipissing Resort is located right in the path of the Walleye’s spawning route. Walleye use Lake Nipissing’s west side for their breeding grounds and when they’re finished they stick around until Lake Nipissing warms up and then depart back to the French River. Traditional Walleye fishing tactics work best here. Sitting and jigging with a minnow or a slow troll with a worm harness works best.

Northern Pike Fishing
West Nipissing has absolutely, incredible, Northern Pike fishing. Whether it’s the 40″ trophy you’re after or a huge quantity of our Northern Gators West Nipissing Resort can deliver. The west end of Lake Nipissing, is truly a paradise for Northern Pike. West Nipissing has 100’s of sunken islands, shoals, weed flats, rock beds, weed beds, weed lines and drop offs. The Northerns here have furocious appetites and when the bite is on they’ll take just about anything you can throw at them. Some of the more favorite luers used by fishermen are: Williams Wabbler, Inline Spinner Baits, “V” Type Spinner Baits with a Rubber Skirt, Mepps, Five of Diamonds, Lucky Strike and many others. Live bait works too: worms, minnows, leeches and crayfish.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing
West Nipissing’s Smallmouth Bass are without a doubt as big as they are plentiful. The average size Smallmouth Bass caught out of West Nipissing Resort is 3.5 pounds. With plenty more caught under this weight as well as several in the 4 – 6 LB category. Lake Nipissing’s, Smallmouth Bass are: pound for pound the most exciting, strongest and athletic fish in the lake. The Smallmouth Bass tend to gravitate to the south side of our islands where they wait, ready to ambush from the weed line onto the broken rock bottom which house their favorite meal: crayfish, leeches and bait fish.

Largemouth Bass Fishing
West Nipissing’s Largemouth Bass are healthy and plentiful in this end of the lake. The average size Largemouth caught out of West Nipissing Resort is 2.5 – 3 LBS. With trophies coming into the resort topping the scales at 5 LBS a regular occurance West Nipissing truly is a bass fisherman’s heaven. The Bucket Mouth’s love Lake Nipissing. It’s rivers, creeks, fallen pine trees, sunken stumps and lilly pad covered weed flats, provide endless structure for you to target these seldom sought after game fish. Most Bass fishermen don’t realize Lake Nipissing is a world class bass fishery , hence our bass receive very little pressure.

Muskie Fishing
West Nipissing is home for some of the largest Muskie that roam Lake Nipissing. The average size muskie caught at West Nipissing Resort is 45 to 47 inches. We’ve had several caught over the 50 inch barrier and plenty of younge muskie caught in the low to mid 30 inch range. This is a healthy range as it shows West Nipissing has a healthy Muskie population. West Nipissing is a shallow body of water so fishing muskie here lends itself nicely to casting and shallow trolling.
